I Turned A $20 Ad Into $1500 With This Powerful Trick

A few months ago I wanted to test out paid traffic and it ended up extremely successful. Check out my method that’s still profitable to this day.

How Many Of Your Ad Campaigns Get a 7500% ROI?

I think its pretty safe to assume most marketers understand the concept of targeted traffic and the traditional sales funnel.

Targeted traffic –> Sales page –> Conversions

This was about a year or so ago, but at the time I was still going after large payouts from non-passive income.

Things like CPA (cost per action) offers and physical/eBook sales really intrigued me, but at the time I was having no luck.

I made a few bucks from random CPA offers using the Youtube + CPA method. (You post relevant videos, optimize them for search engines, and plug the video link into a bunch of social sharing websites to boost the views early on, and throw a CPA link in the description of the video.)

Even though there was tons of room for optimizing and testing my method, I knew that scaling up that method would take much more work than it was worth.

This lead me towards the conclusion that I needed to find something I could sell as a huge profit margin, while also providing a great service to my customers.

Here’s What I Did

I first laid out my goals… what I wanted to accomplish by this next project. (I’m really bad at planning things out, something I am still working on to this day).

  • Wanted to make a passive income stream
  • Wanted to make as much money as possible, hopefully a thousand or more per month
  • Wanted to leverage a current skill I had
  • Wanted my customers to be 100% satisfied

At the time one of my main skills was SEO… and I decided I wanted to sell my expertise in an affordable yet effective package.

The same way you do keyword research for any niche site, or micro-niche, in order to figure out how much your keywords are worth and whether or not its worth pursuing your chosen niche, I wanted to figure out my possible options.

The other problem… I was only willing to risk $20.

At the time I hadn’t been very successful, and I really didn’t want to risk more money.

So I looked for the best place to sell SEO related items or services, and then tried to find the best type of advertisement I could make in order to bring in targeted traffic.

What Did I End Up With?

After lots of research, I figured out that the best place to find SEO clients (low-end work, not serious business clients), was the WarriorForum. If you aren’t family with it, the WF is a place for marketers to converse freely. The only problem is in recent years the site has been infiltrated by extremely ignorant and rather unintelligent folks.

Remember, I only had $20 to spend. Part of the research included finding a website that had super-targeted traffic at a low fee.

So I then decided to come up with my sales plan.. my business strategy if you will.

At this point I realized that I needed to switch the tables around, and instead of thinking about where I could find the best clients, I started thinking about what my more targeted clients would be after.

What is something my potential clients could benefit from?

After some competitive analysis, and other forms of research, I realized that in the SEO niche, 99% of buyers were after quick, safe, plentiful low-quality links all put together into a nice package deal.

(It was pretty apparent that most of the buyers had no clue what to look for in an SEO package, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to let other marketers take money from these unsuspecting webmasters without providing them a solid value).

I could at least produce some results at a low-fee.

And then it dawned on me, my traditional form of powerful whitehat SEO just was not going to sell well on the forum. They wanted quantity.. not quality.

So I gave my buyers what they wanted…

(Note: Some of the links below are affiliate links, and if you decide to purchase through them I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. There is absolutely no obligation. Thanks for your support.)

I went and bought MagicSubmitter in order to produce these high-quantity links. That gave me access to article, video, press release, blog comments, and so many more link types.

I tested, tested, and tested to figure out reasonable amounts of link percentages/quantity/and the overall value of a cheap + easy service I could provide.

I literally just sold people weekly or monthly campaigns on MagicSubmitter.

Here’s the trick: they knew they were just paying for my time and expertise; they would rather have me manage their SEO campaigns than spend the money and time doing it themselves.

I threw together a rather bad looking sales page, and bought a $20 classified advertisement spot on the forum.

And the rest was history..

Note that you can use this method with anything. I personally chose SEO work because I had a significant amount of experience in the field but you can apply this methodology to any market.

You can sell people on convenience alone. Offer to save them serious amounts of time, and you will profit immensely.

To this day there are a significant amount of people profiting from this exact method –> invest in SEO tool, advertise your services, and then profit from tons of people that are looking for exactly what you have to offer.

Just How Targeted Can You Get?

Remember, I was attempting to sell SEO packages to rather uneducated folks, who knew they wanted SEO, but just didn’t have a clue what it was or what the real point of such a campaign really was.

I decided to go with a monthly pricing for the packages, because I really wanted to start building nearly passive income, and I kept the sales page very short and sweet.

So imagine my surprise when my $20 forum post goes live and over the course of 24 hours, I gained three new clients.

One was at a $75/month level, another was at the $75/month level, and finally a $300/month client.

Here’s something important to note, due to the increasing value of any passive income work, a one time client usually turns into a life-long customer if you give them solid service and attention.

After a month or two, that $20 that I paid for a paid forum advertisement in the correct section, I had gained over $1,500 from a tiny amount of work.

The End Result

Overall I was extremely pleased by my marketing skills when I realized that I had effectively turned $20 in $1,500+, but in reality this was a one time fluke. (Or so I thought).

Here are the important takeaways of this post:

  • Do research on any business plan you have, lots of research = solid investments
  • Figure out your preferred customers, where they congregate, and then how you can advertise to them effectively
  • The actual cost of an advertisement does not have any effect on the outcome

Have you had any exceptionally positive results from low-cost advertising?

  1. I came from the WP and I found your thread… I supposed to comment there first but I am in love with this post… very educational. I mean I want to research more about the things I am going to invest my time and money. I invest almost $200 for something that has nothing to give me in return. I am really impressed with your technique and marketing strategy… I guess SEO is really a lucrative business… I am trying to promote my web design skills and I am trying to figure how to profit from it… Last day I have a client on fiverr who was really interested in my web design service, however I guess we was turned off by my price proposal… well, it’s a lesson that I should always consider in dealing my clients… Again, thank you and this is a perfect blog.

    • I’m glad that you enjoyed the post.

SEO can be an extremely lucrative business, and most people don’t understand that there are a few different sections of SEO.

Some people are just looking for “linkbuilding” and don’t care about the quality (like fiverr SEO buyers), some are after legit SEO from a digital marketing agency (like real companies), and some people just need SEO knowledge to build their own passive income online through things like affiliate sites and micro-niche adsense websites.

      Thanks for your insight!

  2. Brandon,

very nice article, informative and interesting. Bookmarked. :)

Speaking of the Warrior forum, you are right… I have tried selling quality SEO services and they simply didn’t sell well, no matter how much tweaked my sells letter/thread, etc. Until it also dawned me on me that peoplewant QUANTITY instead! Hahahaha…

    • Yeah… and I felt bad about that too, for a while.

Originally I wanted to sell high-end SEO (like what you said) to get people ranked for serious keywords for something like $500-$1,500 a month… but no one wanted that.

Then I changed it around to those packages I was talking about in the articles, and it sold like crazy.

Interesting.. I guess the moral of the story is you have to calibrate your advertising to your traffic source.

  3. I take my hat of to you Brandon and your right a lot of WF members don’t a clue about what to expect from an SEO package. as long as your offering a quality service and not ripping folk off. I think as the other commenters pointed out price matters and folk aren’t going to fork out a lot of money at the beginning for SEO services. After you have proven yourself to the clients you have they will stick with you and keep paying you each month for your magic submitter campaigns. Keep up the great work, look forwards to reading your other post.

    • Thanks mate, I’m slightly dumbing it down in this post, but basically with a small amount of creativity you can seriously profit from WF ads. But I guess that could be said for any advertisement?
